Our shorelines and maritime culture have shaped this place and its people. Today, maritime heritage remains a vibrant part of Washington’s communities, economy and identity. In 2019, congress designated the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area spanning shorelines of 12 Washington state counties. This designation means stronger partnerships dedicated to advancing and honoring Washington’s maritime cultures, more support and resources for communities and Tribes working to enhance and share maritime heritage, and more visibility for Washington’s maritime heritage, past and present.
Today we’re introducing the heritage’s area’s new website. It’s complete with opportunities for all audiences to connect more deeply with our salt water shorelines that make our home such a special place.
