Nourish Your Brain, Skip the Mercury!

Eating fresh foods beckons, especially delectable seafood, it's crucial to savor the flavors without ingesting toxins. Opting for low-mercury choices ensures a great brain boost and overall well-being. My go-to guide (linked below) helps me choose seafood wisely, with scallops being a personal favorite, boasting the lowest mercury levels.

The principle is simple: vegetarian creatures have less mercury, as they avoid ingesting mercury-laden prey. Conversely, carnivores accumulate more mercury, representing the amalgamation of all the fish consumed throughout their lives. Opting for smaller creatures also means selecting a lower mercury load, as they haven't had ample time to accumulate this heavy metal.

Shrimp, unfortunately, comes with a tragic reality, often caught and processed in Asia with slave labor. Opting for American wild-caught shrimp is a more ethical choice, but always check the package for its origin.

Farmed fish is on my avoidance list due to its inefficient resource use and the environmental havoc it wreaks, requiring two pounds of feeder fish to raise one pound of farmed fish, contributing to pollution and biological imbalances.

Sashimi, tempting as it may be, is another omission from my seafood choices. The risk of hosting a parasite outweighs the culinary delight, as nothing surpasses the taste of a healthy gastrointestinal tract.

If you're seeking guidance on mercury detoxification, consider scheduling an appointment. It's a cornerstone of my practice. Here's to your well-deserved good health! Bon Appétit!
